My old washer of another brand had an impeller instead of an agitator. That's what was sold in 2014 when I purchase my previous washer. I do find my clothes and towels are coming out whiter and cleaner with the agitator. I highly recommend this washer. I also bought the matching dryer which has proven to be just as exceptional.
